●青のうちに渡りきれない信号
信号が赤のときは、周囲の人がどんどん渡っていきますが、おとなしくいつも待つようにしています。そして青になった瞬間に右折してくる車に注意しながら横断歩道を渡るのですが、、、。清華大学東門の成府路との交差点を東西方向に渡ろうとすると、いつも横断歩道を渡りきる前に、信号が赤になってしまいます。
この大人の足で普通に歩いているのにです。
いったいなぜ、、、。
観察していると、小さい子供の手をひいた親子や老人たちは、普通に渡ろうとするととても間に合っていません。しかし、彼らの多くは違うんです。無事に信号が青のうちに向こう側へたどり着いているのです。
彼らは、信号がまだ赤で自動車の左折のみのときにすでに道路の半分まで安全にたどり着いてい、歩行者が青になってからもうあと半分を渡っているのです。そして老人のゆっくりとした足取りで十分な時間を経た後に、信号が赤にかわるのです。
こんな大人の足でも間に合わない信号でも、信号を守らないことで、自動車に迷惑をかけずに安全に渡ることができるシステムになっています。
おそるべし中国。

北京に初めて訪れて３年ほどになりますが、交通マナーは一向に改善されているように感じません。
タクシー運転手の運転中のケイタイには、当初閉口しましたがもう慣れっこです。でもバス運転手の新聞読みながら運転には、恐怖を感じました・・・。
